i did'nt know this was a class on how to properly film people bouldering. i enjoyed the video despite whatever technical achievements were not met according to the professional panel of viewers. not everyone has been to or seen these problems before either. i'm no film critic but i've seen what i beleive are lesser quality videos on this website. i just enjoy watching climbing whether on film or live. keep the videos coming!
Hey there "expecting more from professionals" - DPM strives to bring free, quality content to the pages of our magazine and our website. Sometimes, videos don't live up to the viewers expectations. However, we are one of the few climbing websites that still pays for videos. If you have a submission, please send it over. We are happy to see different ascents with different people - but if we don't receive the submission it would be impossible to post it.
Cheers,
DPM
I would agree with several of these posts. When deadpointmag first came out, I thought it was going to be a magazine for all climbers, not just several professionals and their girl friends. It would be nice to see some new first ascents instead of the same people sending problems that we have all seen before. Also, the video quality is abhorrent. Sorry that I can not be more constructive in terms of criticism. However, a professional video should be professional. These videos should be held to a higher standard because they are paying for them. I know of photographers with higher quality videos, more lifestyle shots, even first ascents of beautiful lines that dead point will not post, perhaps because it is not Carlo Traversi. Maybe someone should try this idea of an online magazine over the correct way.
did anyone else see the kid eat something off the ground at the end of the video? lol
ya I thought those holds out right were a bit off, but kick ass method. I think if your shorter toxic avenger is easier!! Funky heel hook!
Both of those problems are very height dependent. I dont think they feel like v10, but they are for my shorter friends. Also, That is not Toxic Avenger, you were using holds way out on Mr. Happy.
I agree with you on this particular video, but it seems like whenever someone tries to step outside the box in the world of climbing videos to produce something a bit more on the unique side, people seem to only criticize and request to see "just the climbing". It's a difficult balance. It's also very easy to criticize without providing solutions to a particular problem. If I were to comment on this particular video I would also say that it is sub-par, but would suggest a variety of changes that would certainly make it better:
Such as:
1. A larger variety of angles to either intensify the climbing action, or further pique the interest of the viewer in the aesthetics of a unique feature of the problem.
2. Dialogue with the climbers to create some form of a story line.
3. Better lighting.
4. Clean the lens before filming.
5. Vary the audio to bring the viewer in by using sounds from the climber. Or highlight the music by picking a track that fits the style of climbing better.
Hopefully this helps the videographer the next time around. As well, maybe you could voice your opinion in a more constructive manner in the future. I think we could all do with a little more of that!
Has anyone seen toxic go that way and not to be some line drawning a-hole but, are those on for the line? Curiosity only mad props on the send
This video really kind of sucked. I feel like I have been subject to this too many times already. Same style music, same boring ass problems, same dull topouts...an overall dud. V10? I would rather watch V4 that was interesting and filmed well than this!
