Joshua Tree Climbers Carnival
All Out Events launched another show out in the depths of the desert bringing together climbing and pure entertainment.
Desert rats, lizards, and dirt bag climbers flocked to the Climber’s Carnival outside of Joshua Tree National Park to take advantage of the unusually perfect temps during the winter season. The Climber’s Carnival, another brain child of All Out Events and its founder Yishia Horowitz brought together the climbing community by implementing an event that crossed burning man and the Outdoor Retail show, but on a more moderate scale. Parked outside Coyote Corner the event invited climbers to enjoy live music, clinics, vendor booths, great food, and climbing all in one corner of the world spanning over a three day period.

T he event follows the coat tails of the Pine Mountain Pull Down which was another successful endeavor put on by All Out Events that also incorporated entertainment aspects with climbing. These festivals have begun to pop up everywhere and they have gone a long way moving the climbing community in a positive direction. The sponsors were out in force with Moon Climbing, Mad Rock, Dead Point Magazine, Native Eye Wear, and the Allied Climbers of San Diego. People strolled in from the streets of Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley, both climbers and non- climbers to sample the fun of the festival.
The nights were filled with amazing entertainment. Joshua Tree “historians” Randy Levitt and Dean Fieldman came out to the show and educated the new school on the cutting edge first ascents that were put up in the 70’s. After each slideshow a new local band took the stage and jammed late into the night while the crowd enjoyed dollar beers.
The days at Joshua Tree were filled with amazing 65 degree temps and a park packed full of climbers gearing up their trad racks and dusting off their mondo-pads to face off against the legendary highballs and steep finger cracks. The event took hours of preparation, coordination, love, and effort from the community and All Out Events, but they again have created something that will grow to be a beacon for festival based shows.
