Chris Webb Parsons: Out of Rehab and Pulling Hard

Chris Webb Parsons: Out of Rehab and Pulling Hard
By Anthony Lapomardo

Everyone seems to be on the comeback trail after undergoing a season ending injury. While most climbers  stay within the safety of the gym Chris Webb Parsons is back “rehabbing” his shoulder by ticking off double-digit lines in Bishop, California.

Shoulder injuries seem to be common place for climbers these days. Beth Rodden, Ethan Pringle, and Chris Webb Parsons all elected to put their season on hold to undergo shoulder surgery which would mean losing time on the rock and a painful and slow recovery. Most climbers elect to rehab their injuries in the safety of the gym. It seems Chris has taken another road and is almost back in peak form as he has been quietly ticking off double digit Bishop classics on his road to rehab. Chris began his assault in the Happy Boulders dispatching Standing Kill Order (V11), Kill Onsight (V12) and Bubba Butt Buster (V11). Although the area was a bit wet from a massive snow storm it did not slow him down. Next, Chris wadded through the snow covered Buttermilks where he began to work on the last moves of Direction. After sticking the crux and tearing a hole in his tip he took a small break and sent The Oracle V13.
This performance begs the question: What can we expect from Chris once he is fully healed?

SHOULDERS

Take time off first thing if you are experiencing any prolonged (over 4 days) soreness in the shoulder area. May be muscular and you will know if that is the problem cause within a week of downtime you will have no lingering pain unless you tore something huge (which would most likely hurt enough to see a dr asap). The ligaments themselves receive very little blood flow compared to muscles and thus they can take from 2 weeks (best scenario; stopping at that first weird twang)up to years (worst case scenario; chronic inflamation and lack of appropriate treatment and more over use). If opening a door knob sends a wave of pain down your shoulder its time to see the dr; failing that if you lack insurance take time off and do not stress the shoulder until you have at least 2 weeks of pain free daily activity under your belt. Good luck. By the way I suffered a shoulder injury and did not act appropriately as I continued climbing on it till I realized something bad had happened. I slacked on my physical therapy. End result a 1 month recovery turned into 16 months. Lesson learned

The Community

Imagine a news source actually reporting the news. I find it funny how the climbing community would rather plead ignorance then concede that there exists an undercurrent to our business. Thanks for the news updates guys, keep it coming! On another note who knew climbers in Bishop actually went to the Sads all you ever see is shots of the Buttermilks....thanks!!

Wow. Imagine that. DPM

Wow. Imagine that. DPM listened to your suggestion and you castrate them. I bet you were sweet and asked nice when you made your suggestion too. If this site sucks, why were you on it two days in a row?

Just trying to listen

Hey there "anonymous" we are just trying to bring you what you want! DPM is a small operation trying to bring you free climbing media. We thought since our industry is climbing, then the Mad Rock post was quite relevant. We are sorry you disagree.

It is upsetting

Not to be a an arrogant jerk, but how the hell can someone be rehabbing and pulling double-digits? Seriously it just is depressing what good genes will do. Oracle is what line?
